Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Snow from late last week created isolated pockets of surface slabs in lee areas below cliff bands where drifting and sloughing created larger accumulations. Also, the possibility continues for snowmobilers and skiers to release dangerous, full depth avalanches in steep avalanche terrain. The situation is problematic as the snowpack can support significant traffic before sliding on weak, underlying snow. Stay out of steep ravines and do not watch others while sitting directly below a slope.

Pulses of moisture will attempt to ride over the ridge bringing a chance for light snowfall to the higher peaks Sunday night and Monday. Winds will continue brisk out of the West at 25 to 30 miles per hour on the ridgecrests.The General Avalanche Hazard in the TETONS will fall to LOW at the Upper elevations and will continue LOW at the Mid and Low elevations on Monday. Isloated pockets of wind slabs could be triggered below large cliffbands that sit in the lee of prevailing winds. The General Avalanche Hazard will remain MODERATE in the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails/Greys River areas due to the possibility of triggering full snowpack hard slabs in steep areas. These slabs can slide even in areas that have seen considerable previous traffic.
