At the upper elevations new snow and west winds have formed isolated pockets of new soft slab on leeward aspects. These small surface slabs with depths of six to 12 inches and loose snow sloughs could be human triggered in steep terrain. Snow depths are shallow in the mid elevations. Very little snow and bare ground exists at the lower elevations.
Avalanche Discussion
Expect mostly cloudy skies along with a chance for light, scattered snow showers on Wednesday. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the low teens before rising back into the upper teens during the day. Northwesterly ridgetop winds will back to the west at 15 to 25 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW on Wednesday. In steep, wind loaded terrain at the higher elevations, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of surface slab. While these slides are likely to be small, they have the potential to carry skiers and riders into compromising terrain, such as shallowly buried rock outcroppings and scree fields.
