Kernpunkte

Shallow loose snow sluffs and surface slabs, one to three feet in depth could be human triggered on steep slopes at the mid and upper elevations. On long, steep sustained pitches loose snow sluffs could entrain enough snow to become a hazard. During the previous two days, skiers have triggered surface slabs on northerly aspects at the mid elevations on Mt. Oliver, in the West Mail Cabin Creek Drainage and in a side drainage of Darby Canyon. These soft slab avalanches had crown depths that ranged from 12 to 20 inches deep.

Avalanche Discussion

The fringe of a low pressure system moving from the Great Basin towards the Four Corners area may bring a few more inches of snow to the southern areas of our forecast region overnight. Skies are expected to be mostly sunny on Tuesday. Temperatures will drop into the teens overnight and rise into the 20s during the day. Winds will be northerly at 5 to 10 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard remains MODERATE at the mid and upper elevations were pockets of soft slab up to two feet in depth could be human triggered in steep terrain. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.
