Kernpunkte

On shaded aspects above 9,000 feet, backcountry travelers might be able trigger slabs to two feet in depth in very steep, active avalanche paths. Elsewhere, avalanches are unlikely in the shallow early season snowpack.

Avalanche Discussion

Warm air aloft moves in tonight and will keep overnight lows in the mountains near zero, while valley temperatures dip into the negative teens. At all elevations, temperatures will rebound into the teens during the day. Skies will remain mostly clear and northerly ridgetop winds will range from 5 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE on shaded slopes above 9000 feet. There, backcountry travelers have a small chance of triggering isolated areas of slab up to two feet in depth in very steep, active avalanche paths. Elsewhere, the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW and avalanches are unlikely in the stable, early season snowpack.
