The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Weaknesses persist near the base of the snowpack in some areas. The possibility continues for people, especially those on snow machines, to trigger hard slab avalanches to depths of six feet or more in very steep avalanche terrain.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. ) Light snow will bring up to an inch of accumulation to the mountains of Western Wyoming overnight and continue into Wednesday with another two to three inches during the day. Morning lows will be in the single digits and temperatures at 9,500 feet will rise into the mid teens. Ridgecrest winds will be westerly at fifteen miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Sloughs of new snow should be relatively light but rapid, dangerous accumulations are possible at upper elevations in ravines or terrain traps. Some potential may remain for users to trigger deep, hard slabs up to six feet in depth in a few very steep, higher elevation avalanche paths. Larger triggers such as snowmachines or many people on a slope may be necessary to start one of these deep, hard slabs. The last slides on these deeper layers were four weeks ago in the Tetons and twelve days ago in the Continental Divide area. Determining the stability of these slabs is hard to estimate and the deep layers can continue to weaken in difficult to detect, shallow areas.
