Kernpunkte

Deep slab instability persists on a variety of aspects above an elevation of 7,500 feet. Backcountry travelers venturing into avalanche terrain could trigger these large, DANGEROUS avalanches with slab depths up to six feet. Yesterday, clear skies enabled observations of the natural activity in the backcountry that has occurred over the past few days. A very large avalanche was reported on the east face of Buck Mountain. This slide, with crown depths near 10 feet, took out the majority of the east face and propagated to the cliffs below Static Peak. Similar slides could be triggered today. Use conservative decision making, careful route finding, and good travel habits. Training and experience are essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain. Mostly stable snow exists at the lower elevations and avalanches are unlikely.
