Kernpunkte

At the mid and upper elevations, the possibility remains for backcountry travelers to trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches up to three feet deep in steep, avalanche-prone terrain. While this deep slab instability persists on all aspects, it is most likely to present itself on east to north facing terrain. These slopes may fail after being crossed several times. Evaluate the snowpack and terrain carefully. At the lower elevations, avalanches are unlikely.

Avalanche Discussion

The next in a series of shortwaves is expected to brush the region from the south bringing another round of moisture starting early Tuesday morning. Three to six inches of new snow could accumulate by Tuesday evening. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the teens, rising into the 20s during the day. Southerly ridgetop winds will range from 10 to 20 miles per hour.Above 8000 feet, the general avalanche hazard is expected to remain MODERATE and slowly raise as new snow increases the load on a weak snowpack. In steep avalanche terrain, backcountry skiers and riders could trigger hard slab avalanches up to three feet in depth. While this deep slab instability persists on all aspects, it is most likely to present itself on east to north facing terrain. Shallow soft slabs will also slowly build near ridgelines on leeward slopes. Backcountry travelers should carefully evaluate the terrain, monitor wind speeds and the accumulation of new snow, and choose their routes accordingly. Avalanches are unlikely below 8,000 feet.
