The fresh wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above the tree line. The old snowpack will be moist at low and intermediate altitudes. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
The snow sport conditions outside marked and open pistes remain to some extent unfavourable.
Avalanches can in some places be released by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size.
As a consequence of new snow and a strong to storm force southwesterly wind, avalanche prone wind slabs formed. These can be released easily in some cases. Avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes above the tree line, also on steep shady slopes in areas close to the tree line.
