Only a little snow is lying in all altitude zones. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Towards its base, the snowpack consists of faceted crystals; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow.

Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found on extremely steep shady slopes above approximately 2300 m. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.
