Avalanche Activity

Be careful, many rocks hidden by fresh snow. The more recent wind slabs are small and in some cases prone to triggering.

The fresh snow of the last two days as well as local wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Wind slabs can in some places be released by people. This applies especially at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, especially in pass areas in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain, especially on very steep slopes. Such avalanche prone locations are covered with new snow and are therefore difficult to recognise. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls. Until the temperature drops dry and moist avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small.

Snowpack Structure

5 to 10 cm of snow, but less in some localities, fell on Thursday. The southeasterly wind has transported the new snow, in particular in the regions neighbouring those that are subject to danger level 3 (considerable). In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. On steep sunny slopes below approximately 2600 m a little snow is lying. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Gradual decrease in danger of moist avalanches as the temperature drops. The weather conditions will facilitate a gradual change towards better conditions.
