Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will be deposited in wind-sheltered areas. Greatest accumulations will be on North to East aspects above 900 metres. Fragile cornices will start to develop above these aspects. Above 800 metres the surface of the old wet snowpack will refreeze in the colder conditions. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will mainly be strong West-South-Westerly or South-Westerly. Precipitation is expected throughout the period, initially falling as rain at all levels, then from around midnight as the freezing level lowers, as snow above about 700 metres. Observed Weather Influences: It was a wet day with the freezing level above the summits and rain at all levels. Winds were generally moderate Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The wet thawing snowpack is generally well bonded and stable throughout. Most remaining snow is on North through East to South-East aspects above 750 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
