Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack which is mainly on North, though East to South-East aspects will remain firm, well bonded and stable above 750 metres. Some surface softening will occur where the snowpack is exposed to the direct sunshine and later in the afternoon at lower levels as the freezing level begins to rise. Any remaining cornices will also soften later in the period and become fragile and unstable. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The light North-Westerly winds will veer Easterly becoming South-Easterly tonight, then gradually gain in strength to become fresh South-South-West. No precipitation is forecast. The freezing level will remain around 700 meters overnight, rising later in the period to around 900 metres.

Observed Weather Influences: It has been a day of variable visibility with a dusting of snow on the higher summits. Winds have been light North-West. The freezing level was around 850 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack has remained firm, well bonded and stable with a dusting of new snow above 750 metres. Many aspects are bare of snow with most snow remaining on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
