Avalanche Activity

A lot of new snow above approximately 2000 m: Backcountry touring calls for great caution and restraint.

The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack in all aspects above approximately 2000 m. In particular in the regions exposed to precipitation more medium-sized and large avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of the new snow. Here the avalanche danger will decrease during the day to level 3 (considerable). Backcountry touring and snowshoe hiking call for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack will be generally moist. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will decrease gradually.
