Kernpunkte

Avalanche danger is generally low. Despite the low danger, maintain an awareness of your surrounding, especially as you gain elevation where we have less information. There's the odd chance that you could trigger an avalanche in a small, wind drifted pocket of snow in isolated locations at upper elevations.

Small pockets of wind slabs may exist at upper elevations. In isolated locations, you might be able to trigger an avalanche on one of these stiffer snow deposits. Any reactive slabs would most likely be found on steep, unsupported slopes.

Avalanches would likely be small, however, if you're in high consequence terrain the effects of getting caught in an avalanche could be amplified. If you're carried through trees or rocks, are sent off a cliff or buried deep in a gully even that small avalanche could cause quite a bit of harm.

Example photo: A small slab avalanche like one that you're not likely to trigger on Thursday. If you're stepping out into high consequence terrain, beware of additional risks even if an avalanche is small.

Avalanche Discussion

We've seen some sun and small amounts of wet loose avalanche activity on south-facing slopes over the last few days. Temperatures will cool on Thursday, and we don't expect any continued avalanche activity. Instead, expect crusts on those aspects that might mean challenging travel.

Over the weekend a storm brought rain, and then snow to the zone. The old snow surface formed a crust. In some spots we've found a good bond between the crust and the new snow layer. However, there are reports that weak facets may be forming above the crust in the last few days.
