Kernpunkte

On Tuesday, avalanches will be possible in wind blown snow at the highest elevations.  Avalanches are most likely on north and east facing slopes, and directly beneath ridgelines or below cornices.  Most of these avalanches will be small.  Wherever you are choosing to ride, it is prudent to carry avalanche rescue gear, and practice thoughtful travel techniques.

    On Tuesday, Wind Slab avalanches remain possible at the highest elevations.  On Monday, I observed Light blowing snow from the west near treeline, but the relatively small amount of new snow has limited Wind Slab formation at these middle elevations.  At the highest elevations I expect there is more dry snow available, and stronger winds.  Most wind slab avalanches will be small.  Don't commit to steep slopes that face north or east without first determining how deep the wind blown snow is.  Recently created wind features like wind lips and cornices are also clues that the wind has been moving snow.

Avalanche Discussion

On Monday, I once again found relatively enjoyable, smooth riding near treeline.  A small amount of new snow, overlaid a melt-freeze crust that was supportable when we were on skis, but not when we were walking in boots.  Near the cascade crest it snowed lightly through midday, but there were also just enough sun breaks to make for decent visibility.
