Kernpunkte

Avalanches large enough to bury a rider will be unlikely on Sunday.  This doesn't mean that avalanches are impossible.  Riders may still be able to find unstable snow on the steepest, unsupported slopes.  It is always good practice to travel with avalanche safety gear (beacon, shovel, and probe) and to practice good travel techniques like riding steep slopes one at a time.

Avalanche Discussion

After our last storm, we were observing relatively small pockets of wind hardened snow adjacent to large open areas where the wind could blow freely.  These limited Wind Slabs should be mostly unreactive after two days of sunny, calm, and warmer weather.  As temperatures continue to rise throughout the week, and the sun comes out, we'll see more and more of the terrain melt each day and refreeze at night.  Now's the time to get out and enjoy the colder snow while you can!

Observers were finding about 90 cm of snow at 7,300 ft.  We haven't been finding any persistent weak layers in the snowpack.
