Above 9,000 feet, backcountry travelers might still be able to trigger recently developed wind slabs up to 18 inches deep on very steep, avalanche prone slopes. New snowfall and strong winds will increase the hazard during the day as new slabs build above 7,500 feet. These slabs will form on a variety of snow surfaces which include sun crusts, firm wind pack and settled powder. By this evening, skiers and riders could trigger these new slabs to depths of six to twelve inches in heavily wind loaded terrain.
