As the Mercury rises near and above freezing today be aware that is possible to trigger a wet loose avalanche or wet sluff in terrain steeper than 35 degrees. If you plan to recreate on terrain steeper than 35 degrees today, it would be best to do so in the morning before the snow softens and becomes unstable.

    As temperatures rise near and possibly above freezing today, be aware of the affect the warm temperatures will have on the snow surface. Be on the lookout for red flags that indicate snow instability and get off of and out from under slopes that are showing signs of instability. These red flag signs of snow instability include mushy snow, roller balls on steep terrain, and point like releases on steep terrain especially near rocky terrain features. A wet sluff can carry the unsuspecting recreationalist into trees, rocks and over cliff bands.
