East Slopes South

While sunshine may help soften steep south-facing slopes Saturday, prepare yourself for variable and even difficult travel conditions. You may encounter icy slopes in the morning and all day in shaded terrain.  Use caution and bring the tools you need to deal with this non-avalanche hazard.

Saturday looks like another beautiful day in the mountains with cool temperatures, light winds and sunny skies forecast.  While steep south-facing slopes can soften as the day wears on, you may encounter icy conditions in the morning and all day in shaded areas. Firm slopes could hide under the inch of snow from Thursday.  Make sure you have the skills and tools you need to cross icy slopes safely.  If you encounter conditions like this, a simple slip can turn into a long and dangerous slide. 

At lower elevations, thin snow cover will also create challenging travel conditions. Expect plenty of exposed obstacles, open creeks,  and patches of bare ground.
