It is unlikely, but not impossible, for you to trigger an avalanche today.  Northerly facing, upper elevation slopes are the places for you to possibly find trouble.  If you find a cohesive slab resting on top of weak snow near the ground then you have found the recipe for a potential human-triggered avalanche.  You can greatly reduce the risk of triggering an avalanche by recreating on aspects without a northerly component or chose lower angled terrain.

    This problem requires you to find the right recipe of a slab and a weak layer.  Previous wind events helped to prevent widespread slab formation.  Look for rounded areas of deeper accumulations to help identify slabs from a distance.  A triggered avalanche might break above you.  Expect this problem to persist into the future.

Avalanche Discussion

Stable and mild weather from this past week has helped to slightly reduce the chances of you triggering an avalanche on northerly aspects.  The weak layer at the ground has adjusted to the burden above to a small degree but certainly has not 'healed'.  The key part of the current avalanche conditions is finding a slab and the weak layer.  Terrain features combining both components exist in the forecast area but are not fully widespread on shady slopes.  The wind event from last weekend helped to reduce the distribution of the slab on concerning aspects.  Additionally, low elevation northerly slopes are generally a bit too shallow to possess a slab.   Since the weak layer has now been buried, you can use this observation and its photographs to help identify if the terrain you are considering possess the weak layer.   You can use your eyes in the field to identify potential features with a slab from a distance.  Areas with a slab will be smoother without ground roughness showing through and will be obviously deeper than adjacent terrain.  Slabs are most likely to have formed on leeward features, but may be found lower on slopes or in less typical places due to the significant wind event last weekend.  Both components are somewhat discontinuous across the landscape.  You can look at these two observations for recent information regarding the current Persistent Slab problem (ob 1, ob 2).  You can also check out this video by Zach that quickly gives an overview of the current snowpack concerns.

Terrain that faces east through south through west does not possess a weak layer at the ground so you will not be able to find the Persistent Slab problem on these aspects.  Warm temperatures and sunshine from the past week have created melt/freeze crusts at the surface.  Riding conditions will be firm and potentially challenging on sunnier aspects due to some crusts not fully supporting the weight of a rider.
