Poor snowpack structure persists in the Togwotee forecast area. Weak snow is buried beneath harder snow, making slab avalanches possible. If triggered, slabs will be hard with depths of 1-3 feet. These slabs are most likely to be found in terrain above 8500 feet, especially in terrian with a northerly component in aspect. Be suspicious of any terrain where the consequences of triggering an avalanche are high including small paths than run directly into terrain traps.

This persistent slab avalanche that occured on Barbers Point is a great example of steep terrain to avoid above trees and hazards where consequences are high.
