Kernpunkte

Generally safe avalanche conditions prevail. Approach steep slopes with caution and expect variable surfaces. Be aware of the elevated consequences extreme terrain adds to a slip or fall.

Avalanche Discussion

Stable conditions continue across the forecast zone. Over the last few weeks, little change in the weather has led to little change in the avalanche hazard. With a lack of signs of instability, our snowpack is generally stable. Many people have stepped out to steep, extreme terrain over the last few weeks, and it continues to be a good time to do so. Bring a cautious mindset and continue to keep a few things in mind:

  • Ski with caution. Settlement and melt have resurfaced rocks, trees, and previously buried hazards. Be cognizant of your exposure to shallowly buried obstacles, especially in steep terrain, where the consequences may become elevated.

  • Don't get complacent. Continue to monitor surface conditions for isolated instabilities and warming through the day. Avoid slopes with a wet surface and move to shadier terrain.

  • Reduce your vulnerability to slips and falls. Expect a variety of textures as you travel, and bring sharps (boot crampons, ski crampons, ice ax) to help manage slick surfaces.

  • Consider submitting an observation if you're getting out there!
