Avalanche Activity

Fresh snow/snowdrifts still prone to triggering at high altitudes. Wet-snow avalanches due to warmth and rainfall.

Avalanche danger is predominantly moderate. Fresh snow/snowdrifts from the weekend are increasingly prone to triggering with ascending altitude. Small-to-medium avalanches can be triggered by one single skier. Frequency and size of avalanche prone locations increase with ascending altitude and with increasing wind influence, particularly in ridge zones in all aspects, on very steep high-altitude slopes and in high alpine regions. Due to warmth and rainfall, the snowpack at lower altitudes will forfeit its firmness. In the course of the day in all aspects, moist loose-snow and wet-snow avalanches can be expected. Isolated glide-snow avalanches are also possible on steep grassy slopes. Caution is urged below glide cracks.

Snowpack Structure

Fresh snow/snowdrifts from the weekend have settled and consolidated further. With ascending altitude, especially on shady slopes, this process continues. Bonding to the old snowpack is generally good but worsens with ascending altitude. Small-to-medium avalanches can trigger inside the fresh snow and drifts, or in the layer of dust from the Sahara. On sunny slopes at intermediate altitudes the fresh snow was deposited on bare ground, it is becoming moist from below, which can reinforce the gliding movement of the entire snowpack.

Weather Synopsis

Tuesday will have heavily clouded skies, occasional light precipitation, the snowfall level will rise from 1100 to nearly 1700 m. At 2000 m: -4 to -1 degree. Brisk, gusty westerly winds.

Tendency

The next few days will be variably cloudy. The danger of dry-snow avalanches will not change significantly.
