Avalanche Activity

The fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases.

The fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. These can be released, even by small loads in isolated cases and reach medium size. At high altitude and in the regions exposed to precipitation the likelihood of avalanches is higher. As a consequence of warming small to medium-sized natural avalanches are to be expected. This applies in particular on steep south, southeast and southwest facing slopes, as well as on steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

The sometimes avalanche-prone wind slabs of the last few days are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. The wind slabs are lying on unfavourable layers in all aspects. As a consequence of the occasionally moderate wind, the snow drift accumulations will increase in size in the course of the day.
