Kernpunkte

Warm temperatures and settlement continue to stabilize the snowpack while cool nights have faceted the snow in some areas. The avalanche danger will be Low today above 8,500 feet. In places where there is enough snow to travel on, the snowpack remains mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely. There is no avalanche danger below 8,500 feet due to a lack of snow. The main hazard for backcountry travelers remains the obstacles hidden beneath the shallow snow.

Avalanche Discussion

The weak disturbance that brought clouds and cooler temperatures today will be clearing out tonight. Expect lows in the mountains to be in the lower twenties overnight before rising into the 30’s tomorrow. Clearing skies and sunshine are likely to bring some warming to solar aspects tomorrow, particularly in wind sheltered areas. Expect a Low avalanche danger rating again tomorrow. Instabilities due to the warming trend are unlikely to produce any sort of avalanche. The widespread breakable crust, along with a generally shallow snowpack, will present a greater travel hazard. Areas below 8,500’ contain too little snow for a hazard rating.
