Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area over a wide area 40 to 60 cm of snow has fallen. As a consequence of snowfall and the strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed. The new snow and wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes.

Avalanche Activity

The large quantity of fresh snow of yesterday and the sometimes large wind slabs represent the main danger.

A very large quantity of fresh snow as well as the sometimes deep wind slabs can be released easily or naturally. This applies especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Avalanches can in some cases penetrate deep layers. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for great caution and restraint.
