Avalanche Activity

As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be a gradual increase in the danger of dry and wet avalanches to level 3 (considerable).

Even single winter sport participants can release avalanches. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible. Some medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible. The avalanches can be released in the weakly bonded old snow and reach large size. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes. In addition the fresh wind slabs are prone to triggering in some cases. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more frequent medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large moist and wet avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

15 to 30 cm of snow fell on Tuesday. The natural avalanche activity has gradually decreased. The high temperatures gave rise to significant moistening of the snowpack in all regions below approximately 2800 m. The sometimes storm force wind has transported the new snow significantly, especially adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2300 m. Wind slabs are to be found also adjacent to ridgelines. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
