Low avalanche danger - isolated danger zones from trigger-sensitive snowdrifts
Avalanche danger is low. In high alpine regions, isolated avalanche prone locations due to snowdrift accumulations are found esp. on northwest and east-facing slopes where small-to-medium slab avalanches can be triggered even by large additional loading. The snowdrift accumulations are located in gullies and bowls, as well as behind abrupt discontinuities in the terrain.
The snowpack was able to settle adequately. Due to solar radiation on Saturday and the cold nighttime skies previously, a pronounced melt-freeze crust was able to form. Older snowdrifts are brittle in high alpine regions, often prone to triggering, esp on steep E/NW facing slopes. In these areas there are soft layers embedded inside the snowpack which are weak layers.
On Monday, heavily overcast skies and a small amount of snowfall is possible in Upper Styria. Winds will be brisk from SW. At 2000 m: -6 degrees. On Tuesday, unchanged conditions, but there could be some sunshine in the afternoon in Totes Gebirge and Schladminger Tauern.
No significant change in avalanche danger conditions is expected.
