50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until late morning above approximately 2300 m. The fresh wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence.

In particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and on wind-loaded slopes medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large slab avalanches are possible as a consequence of the sometimes strong westerly wind. The sometimes deep wind slabs of the last two days can be released easily above approximately 2300 m. The fresh snow and the wind slabs will be deposited on surface hoar in some places on wind-protected shady slopes above the tree line. Mostly the avalanches in these loacations are shallow. In particular on very steep slopes medium-sized loose snow avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow.

Snowpack Structure

The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in some cases, in particular at intermediate altitudes. Towards its surface, the snowpack is weak in some cases and its surface consists of loosely bonded snow lying on a crust that is strong in many cases. This applies in particular on shady slopes,. The old snowpack remains generally stable. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will increase. Above approximately 2000 m snow will fall.
