Avalanche Activity

New snow, wind slabs and old snow require caution.

Over a wide area over a wide area 10 to 25 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. The clearly visible wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects at high altitude. Backcountry tourers or freeriders can release avalanches easily. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are not ruled out. This applies in particular on very steep slopes above approximately 1900 m, as well as at the base of rock walls. In particular on shady slopes the avalanches can penetrate even deep layers.

Snowpack Structure

The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow. The surface of the snowpack will soften during the day. As a consequence of warming during the day the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. The new snow of yesterday must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects above approximately 1900 m.
