Front Range

New snow and westerly wind increase your chances of triggering avalanches on steep slopes at upper elevations. Avoid traveling on slopes steeper than around 40 degrees where you observe more than around 8 inches of new or drifted snow on a firm refrozen surface. Expect to find the deepest snow drifts below ridges, and in cross-loaded couloirs and gullies.

During spring storms, new snow accumulation can increase with elevation and vary from range to range. Expect to find snow depth increases the higher you travel, and currently, the Park range, Indian Peaks, and Rocky Mountain National Park are favored to receive the most new snow.
