Kernpunkte

Warm temperatures have created dangerous unstable conditions on a variety of aspects at all elevations. Yesterday skiers triggered wet slabs 18 to 24 inches deep on a southeast aspect at a fairly low elevation on Taylor Mountain and a two foot deep slab on a south-southeast aspect in Noname Canyon south of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. At the resort the patrol easily triggered a four foot deep hard slab with explosives in a closed area on an east aspect at 9,900 feet. In the Salt River Range a high marking snowmobiler triggered a hard slab at an elevation of 9,800 feet north of Sheep Pass. He was buried eight feet deep and recovered alive by his companions. Similar events are likely to be triggered by humans in the backcountry today.
