Kernpunkte

High pressure persists for the Mount Shasta region, bringing with it extreme northerly wind. Take caution on or below avalanche terrain, especially near and above treeline. Natural and human triggered avalanches are possible. Keep an eye out for signs of instability such as recent avalanches, and surface cracking.

Strong northerly wind hammered Mount Shasta for the last 24 hours and will continue today. Any available loose snow is being transported onto E-S-W aspects. Extreme winds like these often create wind loading and cross loading in unusual locations at lower elevations than normally expected. Wind loading could be found mid-slope or below, with potentially sensitive conditions. These wind slabs could be surprisingly widespread on similar leeward aspects.
