Kernpunkte

Sunny skies, light winds, and warmer temperatures will create areas of wet snow instabilities.  This wet snow could slide downhill on sun exposed slopes as rapid warming occurs today.  Make a plan to anticipate where this unstable wet snow will develop and move around these areas of concern.

    Strong sunshine, light winds, and above freezing air temperatures will form wet snow instabilities as daytime warming occurs.  Today will be the first substantial warm up after our recent storm system with strong late February sunshine.  Wet loose avalanches will become possible today on sun exposed slopes at all elevations.  Larger terrain will be capable of producing longer running wet loose avalanches as the recent storm snow becomes wet and deep.

    Roller balls and pinwheels will be indications that the surface snow is losing strength and that larger wet loose avalanches are becoming possible.  As the surface snow becomes wet and deep, it's time to change aspects or move to lower angle terrain.  Extreme terrain or any terrain traps could easily magnify the consequences of being caught in even a small wet loose avalanche.
