Avalanche Activity

As the day progresses as a consequence of the rain there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches.

Some fresh snow and the small wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack in high Alpine regions. As the day progresses the likelihood of moist snow slides and avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on rocky slopes below approximately 2700 m. Individual avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on very steep shady slopes and at transitions into gullies and bowls.

Snowpack Structure

Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be reduced in some case. The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will already be soft in the early morning. The high humditiy will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
