Kernpunkte

Low hazard does not mean no hazard exists. Isolated pockets of wind slab formed during this week's snowfall events exist above 9000 feet. Skiers or riders could trigger these slabs in wind loaded terrain features near ridge crests and cliffy areas. Remember that even small slides can carry consequences in unforgiving terrain. Below 9000 feet, the snowpack is stable and avalanches are unlikely. Practice social distancing at trailheads and while recreating. Follow other current health care protocols.

In higher elevation terrain, isolated pockets of wind slab, formed by southwest to northwest winds, could be triggered with 4 to 18 inch depths. These slabs could become more sensitive in areas where they are rapidly warmed by increasing temperatures and direct sunlight.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A weak system will bring a chance for snow by sunrise although accumulations are to be light through the day. Temperatures are to be warmer with mountain highs reaching the upper twenties. Winds are to be northwesterly with five to fifteen mile per hour averages. The general avalanche will be Low tomorrow. Low hazard does not mean no hazard. Above 9000 feet, isolated pockets of soft slab could be triggered in steep, wind loaded terrain near ridge crests and cliff areas. Remember that small slides can cause injury in unforgiving terrain. Below 9000 feet, the snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely.
