Kernpunkte

A mostly stable snowpack exists in the surrounding mountains. Avalanche activity is unlikely and if encountered will be limited to small slides at the snow's surface. Backcountry travelers should be mindful of these hazards at the upper elevations in very steep terrain on wind-loaded features. On sheltered slopes receiving direct sun for an extended period of time, the snow's surface may start to destabilize. Remember to always use safe protocols when traveling through the mountains to maintain good situational awareness, especially on a busy sunny weekend.

Avalanche Discussion

Dry weather will continue through tomorrow. Skies will start clear and then cloud cover is expected to increase in the afternoon. The temperature inversion will rebuild overnight. In the morning valleys will be in the negative teens and the mountains will be in the twenties. Similar to today, mountains will warm into the thirties and valleys into the twenties. Westerly ridgetop winds will be 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts into the twenties and thirties. A mostly stable snowpack exists in all the forecast areas and the avalanche hazard is Low. Although avalanches are unlikely, backcountry travelers should always be aware of changing conditions. During the warmest portions of the day, snow surfaces could warm and destabilize. Also, warm temperatures from the previous few days have formed firm surfaces and created slide for life conditions.
