Small wind slabs developed from 3-4cm of new snow that fell this week. These slabs, which exist above a stout melt freeze crust, generally lack energy for propagating a crack. Mild weather and night time cooling has been the norm for the past week with settlement and bonding the trend. No avalanches have been reported in these newer wind slabs. Moderate stability tests and no reported avalanches is not a green light to abandon safe travel techniques. Avalanches remain unlikely through most of the range. Existing wind slabs will be loaded by new snowfall tomorrow and are likely to become reactive to a human trigger by mid-day Saturday in a few areas where drifted snow accumulates in the lee of an east wind.
