Kernpunkte

The snowpack is mostly stable as it has undergone melt-freeze cycles since the beginning of March. Yesterday's strong winds and a few inches of new snow have formed shallow, small wind slabs above 9,000 feet on leeward terrain features. In many areas, these slabs lie over rough surfaces and should bond to the old snow. Although, where the new snow lies over smooth firm surfaces, skiers and riders could trigger small slabs, less than a foot in-depth, on steep avalanche terrain. Keep in mind, the strange loading pattern with these atypical easterly winds.

Avalanche Discussion

Conditions will remain cool with diminishing chances of snow shower activity as the low slowly moves east towards the Great Plains. A clearing trend is on tap on Friday. Temperatures will be in the 20’s and 30’s in the mountains. Northeast winds will be light to moderate. Several inches of additional snowfall are possible in the Greys River area. The general avalanche hazard will be low. The snowpack is mostly stable, and avalanches are unlikely. Watch out for unstable snow on isolated terrain features.
