Kernpunkte

LOW avalanche danger exists at all elevations. Isolated Loose wet instabilities may exist on solar aspects today. Be particularly cognizant of warming near rock outcroppings, cliff bands, and in tight couloirs on SE-S-SW aspects. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully and identify features of concern.

Sunny skies and warm daytime temperatures are expected today and may lead to surface warming on solar aspects. A hard refreeze last night may keep surface snow from softening excessively in the early part of the day but you can expect solar aspects to warm relatively quickly as the sun hits them. The last few days of Melt – freeze have been beneficial for stability and solar aspects are becoming more supportable. However, isolated areas of unstable snow may exist today, particularly in areas near rock outcroppings, cliff bands, and tight couloirs where the effects of warming are amplified. Wet, sticky snow surface, rollerballs and pinwheels, and increasing boot penetration are all signs of surface warming and may foreshadow larger point release avalanches.

Avalanche Discussion

Firm and variable surface conditions are worth considering if you head into the backcountry today.  Surface crusts may make things challenging and firm wind board and slick icy slopes may lead to "slide for life" conditions in some areas.  Boot and/or Ski crampons and an ice ax may be beneficial equipment depending on your chosen venue.
