Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will begin to refreeze at all elevations with a thin breakable crust forming. Localised deposits of unstable windslab will form in steep wind sheltered locations on mainly Westerly aspects above 850 metres. These localised accumulations are expected to be shallow, mainly around gully tops, coire rims and ridge flanks. Small cornices may begin to form on these aspects also. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The cold Easterly airflow continues to bring cloudy and damp conditions. Light rain from the early hours and through the day will fall as snow above around 500 metres. Easterly winds will be fresh to strong throughout the period. Observed Weather Influences: Damp and cloudy with outbreaks of rain and snow above around 950 metres. Feeling cold with moderate to fresh East-South-East winds. ObservedSnowStability: At all elevations the existing snowpack is soft and moist with generally good stability. A very thin breakable crust has formed above around 1000 metres with pockets of reasonably bonded soft snow and windslab forming on mainly Westerly aspects, though amounts are shallow and not significant. At lower elevations the snowpack is thawing and diminishing. The avalanche hazard is Low.
