Tendency

Above approximately 1000 m snow will fall until late morning in some regions. Slight increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and wind.

Avalanche Activity

At intermediate and high altitudes a considerable avalanche danger will prevail.

As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes strong wind from westerly directions, avalanche prone wind slabs formed. This applies in particular on steep slopes, as well as in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain also at intermediate altitudes. The fresh wind slabs can be released by small loads. The avalanche prone locations are sometimes covered with new snow and are barely recognisable. Some small and medium-sized natural dry avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers in particular on steep shady slopes. Several medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural dry avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and strong wind. Maintaining distances between individuals and one-at-a-time descents are recommended.

Snowpack Structure

Up to 15 cm of snow has fallen since Tuesday above approximately 1500 m. As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind, further wind slabs formed on Tuesday. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on wind-protected shady slopes. Intermediate and high altitudes: Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on very steep shady slopes.
