Forecast Snow Stability: Cold temperatures will maintain the slow rate of consolidation. Moderately bonded windslab will be encountered in wind sheltered locations on East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Worst affected areas will include gully tops and steep corrie rims. Exposed terrain will be scoured and often firm. Many locations will present shallow snow over bare ground. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Another mainly dry day has been forecast with just a trace of snow expected during the late afternoon. Light increasing to moderate, generally North-Easterly winds. Very cold overnight, with the freezing level rising to around 400 metres during the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A dry and sunny day with very light North-Easterly winds. Freezing at all levels first thing, warming in the sun later. Minus 6 degrees centigrade at 950 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Very cold overnight temperatures have maintained a slow rate of consolidation. Unstable windslab is present in wind sheltered locations on East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Stability is poorest where depth has been acquired over firm snow-ice. Gully tops and steep corrie rims are particularly affected. Exposed terrain is scoured and many locations have shallow snow sitting on bare ground. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
