An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Ragged, Ruby, and Elk Mountains. Heavy snowfall and strong winds will create very dangerous avalanche conditions starting Tuesday morning, lasting through the day. Travel in backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended during this time.
Monday, At upper elevations, there's a chance you can trigger a dry slab avalanche that might break on one of several weak layers in the upper snowpack. The most suspect slopes are wind-drifted ones, steeper than about 35 degrees, that face northwest through north to east.
