Kernpunkte

Air temperatures dropped into the mid 30s to upper 20s overnight after a very warm day. Snow surfaces will soften early and create dangerous conditions. Wet snow avalanches will continue to be a problem on steep slopes. Loose wet slides, wet slab avalanches and cornice drops are possible. Avoid steep slopes and run-out zones beneath these slopes if snow surfaces are soft.

Wet loose slides are possible on a variety of steep slopes. These slides could dig down and trigger deeper wet slab avalanches.

Dangerous wet slabs up to several feet deep will become increasingly sensitive to human triggers and natural releases as the day warms.

Cornice failures are possible. Large cornice drops could trigger dangerous wet slabs.

Avalanche Discussion

This westerly flow will continue to bring Pacific moisture into the region. Scattered snow and rain showers are possible overnight and into the day. Accumulations of a trace to an inch are possible at the higher elevations. Temperatures are expected to be in the 20s by daybreak and rise into the 30s in the mountains and into the 40s in the valleys. Winds will be west at 10 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard will be dependent on the temperatures. It will be LOW in areas where the snow surface freezes and remain hard. It could increase to MODERATE in areas where snow the snowpack only briefly freezes and then soften significantly during the day.
