Kernpunkte

Today is not the day to travel in large or extreme terrain. At upper elevations wind slabs a foot deep are possible to trigger along convex slope features, entrances to chutes or gullies, and below leeward ridgelines. A slick bed surface will cause snow to slide easily and could knock riders off their feet and sweep them into hazardous terrain below. Watch for blowing snow actively loading slopes and pillow-like surface shapes to help determine areas to avoid.

    A large spike in wind activity over the past 48 hours has caused winds to reach gale forces with consistent speeds in the moderate to strong category. The results are wind-loaded slopes on the bottom half of the compass. Recent new snow has been dispersed and will additionally stress the snowpack. A decreasing wind trend is on the horizon for today. Riders should remain vigilant and continue to evaluate the snowpack, especially if traveling in the upper elevations near or on leeward slopes.

A beautiful day and lack of awareness can lead to complacency. Don't be fooled by conditions and don't let your guard down. This past wind event has made observations on the upper mountain somewhat limited. Have an assessment mind state if are traveling to new areas or high in the hills today.
