Kernpunkte

New snow and steady wind have created slabs of stiff snow.  These slabs are most likely to be found at higher elevations where the wind has deposited snow. Watch for and avoid drifts, hollow sounding, or punchy snow.

A slick crust has been left in many areas after the Christmas storm.  New low-density snow fell on top of that crust. Now more dense, wind drifted snow is accumulating on top of that.  This creates the perfect setup for Wind Slabs.

Avalanche Discussion

While Wind Slabs are the most likely avalanche problem today, a chance for Loose Wet avalanches exists. Snow Levels are forecasted to rise and may cause a change over to rain/heavy wet snow at lower elevations. This could cause Loose Wet avalanches.
