Kernpunkte

On Wednesday Wet Loose avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider are unlikely.  Low danger doesn't mean no danger.  Small Wet Loose avalanches remain possible on the warmest slopes (south facing, low elevation), and even small avalanches can be dangerous on certain slopes where terrain traps are present.  As long as daytime high temperatures are well above freezing, and overnight lows are barely below freezing I'll be giving large cornices a wide berth.

Wet Loose avalanches remain possible on steep south slopes.  With cooler temperatures, increasing winds, and increasing cloud cover in the weather forecast, the likelihood and size of Wet Loose avalanches will be diminished from what we have been seeing since the weekend.  Be mindful of terrain traps where a small avalanche could have increased consequences.

It has been very warm and sunny!  The warm temperatures and sun have melted snow and weakened cornices.  Wednesday will be a bit cooler, but it is still worth being mindful of large cornices.  In these conditions I minimize the time I'm exposed to cornices (when underneath them), and also give them extra space (both when traveling along ridgelines, and when traveling below them).
