Avalanche Activity

Weak layers in the old snowpack necessitate caution.

In some places the avalanches can be triggered in the faceted old snow and reach medium size in isolated cases. This applies especially in little used backcountry terrain. The avalanche prone locations are rather rare but are barely recognisable, even to the trained eye. Older wind slabs can be released in isolated cases, especially at their margins, on very steep, little used shady slopes, caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example.

Snowpack Structure

Less snow than usual is lying. Below approximately 2000 m hardly any snow is lying. The old snowpack will be well bonded on steep sunny slopes. As a consequence of falling temperatures and solar radiation the snow drift accumulations stabilised during the last few days. In the last few days the natural avalanche activity has hardly increased.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
