Kernpunkte

The snowpack is mostly stable. This morning cool temperatures should keep snow surfaces cold, and in the afternoon depending on cloud cover and above freezing temperatures, slopes could become wet and result in wet loose avalanches. These slides will most likely occur on solar aspects below 8,500 feet and on all aspects below 7,500 feet. If the snowpack is wet and unconsolidated, avoid steep terrain. Due to the unexpected challenges involving Covid-19 and the overloading of our healthcare system, it is important to make conservative choices. Please make cautious decisions and efforts to avoid injuries. Thank you.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Unsettled weather in a southwest flow will continue to bring weather disturbances to Western Wyoming. Tomorrow, skies are expected to be partly cloudy with periods of light snowfall. Overnight, temperatures will drop into the teens and then climb into the 20s and 30s with valleys reaching the low 40s. Ridgetop winds are expected to be westerly and range from 10 to 20 miles per hour. For the Togwotee Pass forecast area, the hazard above 9,000 feet is Moderate, where skiers and riders could trigger wind slab avalanches up to 2 feet in depth on wind loaded slopes. For the Greys River and Teton forecast areas, the general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low, where below 10,500 feet the snowpack is mostly stable. In the Tetons at the upper elevations, skiers and riders could still trigger slab avalanches up to 18 inches in-depth in isolated areas on steep terrain. Afternoon warming and periods of clear skies could result in wet loose activity on solar aspects and below 7,500 feet. Due to the unexpected challenges involving Covid-19 and the overloading of our healthcare system, it is important to make conservative choices. Please use cautious evaluation and make efforts to avoid injuries. Thank you.
